The Premier League announces the new typeface that will grace the back of players’ shirts for the 2017/2018 season.
In the past couple of years the Premier League has begun to refresh the design elements around the league. First they took a fresh look at the logo, ultimately dropping the “Barclays” sponsor from the title. Then they revamped the TV broadcasting experience.
The latest is the new font designed specifically for the names and numbers on the back of players’ jerseys. In partnership with Sporting iD, they league has refreshed the typeface for the first time in 10 years.
Led by designer Miles Newlyn, the newly worked numbers have a cleaner and more dynamic look than the typeface that precedes it. The font has five approved colorways for the season: white with black details and black, navy, red, and yellow; all with white details. Check out some of the process below!
