After quite some time, David Beckham has managed to secure a plot of land to build the new stadium for the Miami expansion team.
His dream is still very much alive.
After signing with LA Galaxy in 2007, Beckham began search for the right city to create his very own franchise in MLS. That opportunity was a primary reason for joining the American league. In 2013 he announced that Miami was his city of choice, and ever since he has encounter obstacle after obstacle. The group financing the club has already put down a staggering $19 million for other land needed for facilities and his initial hopes for a waterside stadium fell through.
The remaining three acres came with a $9 million price tag and they open the door for the club to start making moves to one day step out onto the pitch. Miami is one of the last major cities in the US to land an MLS team and with Beckham behind the club there is plenty of opportunity for success.
Beckham’s arrival in the league changed the way the sport is played in the States and it amplified both the popularity and credibility worldwide. Since joining the league, MLS has been on a constant rise. Just when we thought Beckham’s impact on MLS was slowing down, we realize he’s only just begun.
